Welcome to BYC - and welcome back to the keeping of chickens! Have you got particular breeds in mind yet? Are you currently in an area where keeping poultry is allowed? If you are interested in ideas for coop construction you might want to check out this part of the site: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops
if you want to network with other chicken keepers in your general area (can be helpful in networking for sourcing your stock, concerns that are specific to an area, etc) you can find your location's thread here:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

If you want to see how things might have changed in the time since you last had birds or brush up on some things to best prepare yourself for a successful reintroduction to the hobby you might find some good information here:

So glad you've joined us!

Hello living in the city we can only have 8 chickens no roosters I really like barred rocks and bantam I know bantam lay small eggs but they make nice pets when I lived in the country I would incubate .I have 3 incubators gqf and two that I made at one time I had over 1000 chick's which I would sell to the feed stores and people who lived around us even sold eggs

Hi yes I think I will incubate a few but living in the city only have 8 I'm a country boy living in the city

Hello from Alabama! I never thought I would like California but my son moved to SF as a traveling nurse, met another nurse and had two children with her and got married in that order. Things are sure different from when I was growing up in the fifties. She was a California girl born and raised in Sacramento. He is now a nurse anethisist and she has her masters in nursing. In August they had another little baby boy. We went to see them and I really liked SF. I walked across the golden gate bridge and waded in the Pacific Ocean. My sister lived in Eureka and we went there among the redwood trees and I fell in love with a town called Trinidad right on the coast. I tried to talk her and my husband into selling our homes and buying one there. But she got sick and they moved to San Diego to be near their children. We went sailing in the bay and I wanted to go under the bridge but the water was too rough. Where in Ca do you live?
