Hi!
I just got two chickens today. I don't even know what kind of chickens they are. One is grey and white and one is peachy with lots of feathers on her feet and a fuzzy lighter peach breast color.

Their names are Gracie & Eliza

I don't know anything about chickens! Nothing at all. :(
I'll be reading everything I can and trying to play catch up so they get what they need.

Right now they have a dish of water and (had) a dish of food today.
Plus I fed them mealworms as I raise my own beetles and worms for my pet fish. They love mealworms!!! I fed them some salad too. I don't even know how much to feed them. I stopped when I thought it was already too much. They seem like they would eat non stop until they burst.

I feel kind of bad for them as I don't know what to do with a chicken except pet it. Please be patient with me if I ask dumb questions. I really don't know anything and I'm so unprepared.

They are in a 12 x 5 dog kennel that has pine shavings for bedding. I did give them a cardboard box with a hole in it and covered the kennel with the tarp cover that laces over it. I'll be fixing things as fast as I can to make this better. This weekend I'm going to put the corrugated SunShade top back on the kennel. It lets in natural light but blocks wind, rain and whatever else.

They were going to be supper as they are 'egg eating' chickens. Which I guess is a very naughty thing to be if you're a chicken. That's okay around here because I'm vegan lol The more eggs they eat the less eggs I have to figure out how to get rid of!
I was preparing for a dog! To be fair though, I really don't have time for a dog. Between working and I just bought this house last year its a lot of work. I really don't want to walk a dog every morning and after work. So I'm both happy and a little nervous :)

I did check right away that its legal for me to have two chickens in the city limits. It is. My neighbor who I share a fence with has a great big fat pig in their back yard. But nobody is supposed to know ;) It was supposed to be a mini pig. Its gotten HUGE!!! LOL His name is Albert. He's the worst kept secret on our block. Noisy and almost too friendly. So I guess they can't complain if my chickens cluck lol

Thank you so much! I've been reading like crazy and I already feel less like I have "OMFG I actually brought home chickens" PTSD :)

I'm so happy I found this site.
You guys are great! The sharing of information is exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you, Thank you! Gracie & Eliza will probably be spared a lot of stupid mistakes thanks to your posts!
Stephie :p

wow... I can't spell. I think I fixed it. If not...well, I did my best. I'm done rereading this. I might be a little hyper so I better go read some more instead.. :p

Welcome! You came to the right place for info! Chickens can't really be overfed. They store all that food in their crop before it goes to their stomach. :) I am sure you will enjoy them, chickens are hilarious. Good luck!

I'm taking a wild guess that the peach colored one may be a salmon faverolles. There are other feather legged breeds but without a picture it's really impossible to tell which.

You might try posting their photos on "what gender/breed is this"
