Greetings from Kansas and :welcome. Great to have you with us. Chickens are a wonderful hobby. But preparation is the key. Here is a link to other Florida chicken keepers https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/305793/florida-always-sunny-side-up They should be able to give you some tips about Florida chicken keeping. Also, you might want to do some reading in the Learning Center here https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center It is packed with valuable information you will find useful as you enter into the wonderful world of raising chickens. Best wishes! :)

Until this spring, we lived in north central FL (moved to WY). One of the biggest challenges we had was the heat & humidity making our chickens uncomfortable in the summer. Some of the things we did: took all the glass windows and solid doors off the coop & replaced them with hardware frames; we gave the girls cooling treats like melon and fruit; sprinkled down their run to cool off the dirt; put out extra waterers. You'll be able to get lots of help on the FL state thread to deal with any local issues that come up.

    Thanks for joining us!

Thanks everyone! We're planning our coop and everything and I just got eggs into the incubator. It's exciting!
