I came across this forum while searching what to do when a random chicken lays eggs in your yard. Well, the eggs started hatching, so I'm here to learn all I can about these chicks.

Welcome to our flock![IMG] Do you know who owns the chicken? She may take her chicks home at some point. On the one hand I would hate for you to put a lot of effort into them only for her to leave and go back to her flock with them. On the other hand, You could be doing a good rescue if you want to start keeping chickens. Either way, this is a great site to learn whatever you want to know!

    Hi :welcome
Glad you could join the flock! Oh wow that is very random! Here is a great section of the learning centre that you should find useful, here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks
It has lots of different articles on hatching and raising chicks. Your top priority should be to keep them safe from predators, food, water and shelter from the elements. Wishing you the very best of luck and be sure to ask any questions you may have. Everyone here to help you along the way.

They are often in the yard next to us, but I don't think they belong to them either. I'm pretty sure they came from a few houses down. We started seeing a couple roosters and hens in the yard next door a few months ago, scratching around the orange groves and at our fence line. My husband had wanted to get chickens for a while now, so I'm not worried about putting effort in with no return. Even if she takes them back, this is a push to get chickens of our own.
