We are new to chickens and are awaiting our 12 chicks, 6 Australorps and 6 Chanteclers. We live in the northern part of BC and so need some cold hardy breeds, which I'm hoping these are. Love this forum!!

Welcome to BYC, Jenn. Glad you decided join our flock. Those are both definitely cold hardy breeds. I've raised Black Australorps where winter temperatures dropped to 30 F below zero, and with a draft free, dry, well ventilated coop, they did just fine. In addition they are very calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.

Welcome to BYC Jenn. We have a great member/poster on BYC who is from BC - she especially breeds Chanteclers because of their hardiness. You may want to check out her thread "Jest Another Day in Pear-A-Dice." Every goose, duck, chicken and I believe even 2 black swans she has are extremely cold hardy.
