First post on here, so I thought I'd pop in and greet everyone.

Having grown up in the country (lot's of space, dirt roads, well water etc.), I have since lived in the the heart of some of Europe's largest cities. My family and I finally got a opportunity to move out closer to the countryside, in Germany.

We'll have a pretty big yard, a little over 5,000 sq feet. Never had laying hens before, but with this move I don't think I can pass up the opportunity.

I thought I'd join the forum and learn as much as I can, before jumping in. I'm sure I'll be posting lot's of questions. Many thanks in advance for your input!

G’Day from down under edanzanders :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

BYC has a Learning Centre, Articles and Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. These two in particular may be of interest to you at these stage:
Topic of the Week - Getting Started, Keeping Chickens
Topic of the Week - Keeping the Flock Safe from Predators

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

A very warm welcome to BYC! There’s so many helpful, knowledgeable folks here and I’m sure you’ll find this site a very useful resource. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.
