I have wanted to get chickens for about 7 years and finally took the leap. Totally did it the wrong way and I'm waiting on my dear husband to build a coop. Oops. My babies well be 4-5 weeks old tomorrow, and I'm ready to get them outside. We have 8 total chicks, 3 buff orpingtons,3 Ameraucanas, and 2 cuckoo marans. I'm disappointed to say that I have at least one rooster, maybe 2-3. Since we can not have roosters in town, I will need to rehome any roosters. My kids just want us to keep them and teach them not to crow! Lol!

Hi and welcome to BYC and congrats on your long-awaited flock. Unfortunately, cockerels are (or can be) a frustrating part of the game - even in places where they are allowed. You can buy "no crow collars" for male birds, but you would still have to get rid of all but one.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre
https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center, and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

This link my help once your coop is complete - https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=Brooder+to+coop

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you.

    All the best

I have no experience with them - try typing "no-crow collars" in the search box and see what threads pop up.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I'm afraid if no crow collars really worked - no one would have to give up their roosters

yep. They get pretty mixed reviews. Quite honestly, neither of my suspected roosters is anything to "crow about".
