We have owned chickens since May 2008. We started out with 20 RIR and were then given 14 sex-links from someone who didn't want to be bothered with chickens over the winter. I have no idea how many we have now because I bought 2 bantams which went broody and then 2 RIR went broody and then 1 of the sex-links decided she'd try her hand at it too. We've lost some and eaten some and now I've lost count. I was up to 55 at some point but I think I'm down to about 40 now. I'm hoping some will go broody again this year but I'm also trying my hand at a homemade incubator.

I have 1 husband, 4 kids, 1 dog, 8 barn cats, 3 ponies, 1 horse, 11 head of cattle, 2 goats, +/- 40 hens and 2 roosters. Grew up next to a man who had a 1 acre hobby farm. He always had a cow, goats, chickens, ducks, geese and occasionally a horse or a pony. Since then I've wanted to have animals. Only thing I was able to have was a dog. Now I've got more.
