I am new to BYCs but have been a hobby chicken farmer for a few years :)

Wondering who else has chickens in this lovely cold weather!:D

How do you keep them from getting bored?!

    Welcome to BYC!

I read a short article just the other day about how to keep chickens from being bored in the winter. A couple suggestions were:
    * Put a bale of hay in their run for them to hop on and pick apart
    * String up a head of cabbage or broccoli to bob at and snack on

If you want to "meet" other Canadians on BYC, here they are:

    Out to pasture
You can fill a sandbox for them so they can take a dust bath. Give them some real tree branches to roost on , set at different heights or angles, in the run. Welcome to the flock.

Giving them treats can help with boredom, too. My birds enjoy scratching around for treats like sunflower seeds in winter. They also like gobbling down moistened chicken feed as a treat.

I put an old wheel barrow in my chicken run, filled it with dirt and now my chickens are always busy!
