I am new to raising chickens, but have wanted some for a while now. I researched a lot on BYC but decided it would be way in the future before I got any as the cost of a decent coop made the whole project prohibitive.

Then I was on one of the FB swap groups and a lady was selling her 6 currently laying hens and a coop for $50. With the help of a very angry BF and amused parents we got everyone home. The coop is a piece of junk that needs to be replaced soon, but it got me started.

From the lady I got 1 golden laced wyandotte and 5 production reds (they could be RIR but I'm not sure). Then the BF saw how much I was enjoying the ladies and bought me 3 EE from an online hatchery. 5 were delivered and are doing well. They are 2.5 weeks old now. Then last Friday I saw the ugliest rooster at the local feed store when I went to buy more food for the babies. Now I have 1 GLW, 5 PRs, 1 buff silike rooster, and 5 EE babies.

    Chicken math has started already...

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. We all have OCD (Obsessive Chicken Disorder) here, and very few BYC members are immune to "chicken math.") If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
