This has been an interesting adventure for my family, into becoming more self sufficient, and I must say that the hens are bringing me great joy ((and an extra bit of pocket money)). I have a dozen girls housed in a 16x20' converted shed, along with my three mischief makin' ducks
Despite all the articles I've read discouraging mixed fowl, they have all done great this winter. There has been no casualities in my flock due to mixed fowl aggression, but I do have to spot clean wet bedding more....darn messy Muscovies. I will be attempting to rectify this with more research as to keeping the water contained better with ducks!
My eleven year old will be entering her Polish hen at 4H this summer. We have already trialed washing PomPom and the hen LOVED it...including the hair dryer, lol.
