My name is Anna and I recently came across this site while researching chickens. Me and my mom want to start a small flock, and I took initiative and started the research. We hope to be able to get chickens soon, so wish me luck. I'd like to get a coop built before then though, but hopefully that will be done before the end of summer.

If any of you know good breeds that lay eggs pretty frequently, I'd be grateful for your input. I've read about quite a few breeds, but there are so many different reviews on them being loud/quiet. I'm looking for ones that aren't afraid to be handled/around people a lot. Also ones that are pretty quiet as to be curtious to our neighbors.

Greetings from Kansas, Spock2013, and [IMG]! Pleased you joined our flock! You did it right by researching first - best going in prepared! In terms of breeds, here are a couple of links you might find useful. My own personal picks - I love Buff Orpingtons, Speckled Sussex, Black Australorps, Black and Red Stars, and Easter Eggers for the colorful eggs. These breeds have been easy for me to calm down and hold. Good luck to you in your search!!

Here is the BYC breeds link:

And here is a nifty chart that has great info:
