Hi, I am from Canyon Lake. I am married and have 2 kids. I am a full time nursing student. We have lots if animals and bought a couple of the baby chicks from the petting coop at the Comal County Fair in September. We ended up with a beautiful black Cochin rooster we named Fuzzy Foot and a sweet little either White Plymouth Rock or White Star Hybrid hen from what I can tell that we named Snowy. They get along well. We are having to keep them separated right now though because FF recently got attacked by the neighbors dog when he got out of his yard and he has a pretty significant injury that I am caring for (medical training comes in handy). So I basically got them for the eggs and plan to get more when I am done with school and we settle in to a more permanent place; we are with my mom at the moment. Hope to swap stories and get some great advice on here.

Oh, let me know if I have lost my mind and am totally wrong on the breed/sex of my white chicken. She? does have a comb but I have been told that hens of some breeds will have combs and was yellow as a chick. The Cochin is obviously not looking like your typical Cochin right now. It was his tail that was almost severed by the dog. That explains the lack of full plumage right now. :( They were both born late Sept 2012.

Greetings from Kansas and [IMG]! Pleased you joined us! Sorry to hear about the dog attack! Hope FF gets better. I am wondering if Snowy isn't a leghorn?? Good luck to you and your flock!

Leghorn? Interesting. But hen my real question is, as it gets older, hen or rooster? I would have thought I would have had eggs by now, almost 5 months old, and the Cochin is crowing already so I don't know.
And thank you for FF's well wishes.
