Welcome to BYC. What are you looking for in a chicken, a good layer, table bird, pet, or an all purpose breed?

Welcome to BYC! [IMG]I'm glad you joined us.

Some good breeds for your daughter would probably be Wyandottes, Australorps, Orpingtons, Sussex, and Ameraucanas. All of those breeds should be good layers and also usually have very good temperaments. Silkies and Cochins aren't great egg layers, but make excellent pets, especially for children.

I would definitely check out the Buy-Sell-Trade section to find some hatching eggs for sale.[IMG]

Do you have a Trader Joes store, people have bought their fertile eggs and got decent hatches, for the price of a dozen.
