Hello! I am new. I have 13 chickens ( 2 Roosters- which I was not expecting) and 2 Indian Runner ducks.

First time raising poultry. I made it through ducklings niacin deficiency but now my rooster (Black Australorp) is mounting my ducks. The ducks are running from him and when I went out to shut the coop up tonight the ducks were sleeping in the run. We have predators so I put them all in the coop at night. I also believe one of the Polish chicks I got is also a rooster he does not appear to be dominant. Any way to keep the rooster from mounting the ducks? Or should I rehome if possible? Thanks for the help.

One way to keep the rooster from mounting the ducks is to have separate runs.

Clucker is high on the ball with that answer. Drakes(male ducks) also will try to breed a chicken hen. Ducks have very different "parts" than chickens do and can maim or kill a chicken hen trying to breed her.

I think my ducks are both females (straight run). No sex feather (I think that is what it is called from research ) and both are fairly noisy. So they could still sleep in the coop together at night and just separate runs?
