My girls have a new friend. I need to know how best to keep them together and when I should put them together. I'm on my way home right now with my new rooster.
I know to NOT keep them together right away incase of anything going wrong.

Why did you get a rooster for only 2 hens? You're going to need at least 6 more hens now, welcome to chicken math!
Keep him quarantined for about a month to make sure he's healthy. Then have them separated by a fence that they can see each other but not touch for at least two weeks.

Love the sarcastic response. Now I need a real answer.

The my girls were lonely 😔and the male needed a good home the lady could not keep them any more. "Free to good home" I paid for him any ways. I'm looking for more girls, in time I will get them. 😀

I just need facts not sarcastic responses. "welcome to chicken math!" Is not needed at all.
A friend took the girls that he was within she couldn't take him due to her having already 2 males and already having her 3 girls and took on the lady's 6. She has her hands full literally so she asked if wanted him.
I don't need to keep him for a month. Im not stupid apparently or my friend would not have mentioned me to the lady. I know how to tell if the male is healthy and I know my girls are.
I'm not exactly a spring chicken I do research alot.

You need to quarantine him for a month no matter what because there can be underlying conditions or illnesses he has that you couldn't see.

Or you can just start introducing him right away, but recognize that any problems he has will probably pass to your original two hens.

So if he has parasites, you would have to treat three chickens instead of one. And if he has any contagious disease, you will have three infected chickens instead of one.

you need to do about 1-2 weeks of look dont touch and slowly introduce him.
Whether you quarantine or not, I would try to introduce them by just sticking the rooster in the pen with the hens and watching what happens. Either it's fine, or it's not. If he is too rough with the hens, or if the hens bully him, then I would pull the rooster out and put him in a pen next to the hens to get used to each other slowly (perhaps several weeks).

I'm sorry, I wasn't being the least bit sarcastic or trying to belittle you, I was trying to make a joke that's commonly used on this site. Chickens are addicting and when people add more we say "chicken math has got you".

I'm going through a rough time in my life, marriage and my only child's (16yr) health is going down hill, 3 traumatic brain injuries and a section of the brain is dead and on top of new health issues, heart problems major surgery is coming soon and a lung condition now. So YEAH I'm carrying a lot of weight in my little shoulders. I'm in no mood for sarcastic responses or to belittled as I felt and my friends said you were doing as well. You never know what is going on in the world or other's lives.
