We have a small 10 acre family farm in northern Illinois. We raise livestock of all sorts. Some cattle, sheep, hogs, goats. Then the birds. Bourbon Red turkeys. Silver Appleyard ducks. Guinea fowl. About 75 chickens. Half of the chickens are 2-4 years old. Mostly Novogen sex-links from Freedom Hatchery. Great birds for free ranging. A couple of Barred Rocks, Delawares and some crosses with Bielfelder and American Bresse. (Old experiments). The other half are chicks we hatched from the older birds last July. Roosters are Delaware and White Wyandotte. Most of these birds are white. We are very happy with these new hens ( the cockerals finished nicely also). We hope to hatch out more this spring. We have a large incubator and it us in constant use in the spring. We hatch the turkeys to raise for Thanksgiving and chickens for meat a d replacement layers and ducks for raising and sale.
