Hello. New to owning chickies!

Hi I am new to owning my own backyard chickens. I have lots of questions, I am reading thru the site and gathering lots of info. What's everyone thoughts on friendlier types of chickens? Best egg layers? Easy keepers? I only have 4 currently but am hoping to add more this spring.

Rhode Island Reds are awesome at laying! RIRs are also friendly (depending on the individual).

I love silkies- very friendly and fantastic pets. Sussex are good layers and friendly too

Lots of friendly breeds out there that are great layers. The Orpington breeds, (Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps) are great layers and are quite tolerant and friendly. The black Australorps are all I keep. They follow me around like stalkers looking for goodies and a soft lap to sit on.
