Hello all! New Hampshire resident, here.
I've been eyeing BYC for a while, but finally made an account here.
I'm 21 and currently have 20 barred rock chickens and then a few mixed breed hens that were given to us from a friend who could no longer care for their flock. We raised these chickens from chicks. I'm happy to say none of them have fallen ill or sick so far, and all have matured nicely, a few pecking order squabbles, but I guess that's expected.
I guess the chickens are kind of like therapy-birds, they're incredibly entertaining and fun to care for and watch peck around the yard. I have one who is at the bottom of the pecking order, who seems to confide in me, and likes to follow me around, even when food is not anywhere on me.
Right now I'm in the plans to build an indoor aviary of diamond doves button quail and perhaps a few finches. Been researching and I'm attending the Westford NEAS*? meeting this sunday to check out the different birds and so forth. I'm excited!
