Lower temperature by 5 degrees every week, make sure they have clear abdomens, spend time with them so they are used to humans, keep clean water and most importantly have fun!

Congrats on your chicks! Is that an old photo? The birds look only a few days there, not weeks.

Let's see, when they start kicking shavings into the water, raising it onto something is always great. RIR are a little more steam lined then other dual purpose birds, so once they get their wings in, you might want to make a lid (such as hardware cloth).

Thank you, everyone! We got our chicks on 3/4/17 and we're told they were a week and a half old. They are doing well so far. The kids love them. The cat is curious but kept away, mostly by the dog who has now come to protect the new babies. It's going well so far!

I've also for about 2 week old chicks (and am new to chicken keeping!) and they are fun and easy enough to care for :)
