Hello everyone, my name's Gerry, hubby is Terry. We got a duckling a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday got 4 chicks. Can they eat anything else besides chick feed? Hubby wants to give them honeysuckle, grass, clover..he's from here in Tennessee, and had chickens before, but I think he forgot how to care for them because he stuck them in a cage out in the RAIN.

Now they are in a cage in our living room under a heatlamp. I know nothing. I am a California transplant who never owned a farm animal in my life.

Hello and welcome to BYC!! You can give your chicks treats just not in big quantities, and chopped in to small pieces. Just make sure they have plenty of grit if you give them treats.

Treats should not make up more than 10% of their daily feed. The should mainly have their nutritional chick feed. Babies given treats too early & often are like kids and will refuse to eat what is good for them. I'm not sure what baby ducks eat.

PS leaving chicks in a crate outside in the rain would cause them to chill & perhaps die. A very young duckling wouldn't be 'waterproof " either.
