Hi all!!!

I am new to backyard chicks in Texas. We had chickens when we lived in Cali, so when we bought our house here, I was excited to get new chicks. I can't find the plans we used to build the coop we had in Cali so the internet search led me here. There are so many wonderful coops here. Now I'm a little overwhelmed LOL. I know we want to do a hoop coop but not sure what size...we have 7 chickens and the coop we haves only big enough for...5-6 maybe. I messed up and bought them in sets of 4 a few weeks apart and the older ones (3 plymouth rocks/1 black sex link) are constantly bullying the younger one (2RIR/1 gold sex link). Don't know what to do to help them get along. They are just about the same size now. Help please...

Hello and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. This link is great for planning purposes - http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-much-room-do-chickens-need

Without having a separate temporary living area (a large dog crate, for example) things may be a little difficult. There’s no reason why this approach should not work if you have the space - http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/introducing-new-chickens-using-the-see-but-don-t-touch-method

For further advice, you can post your question here - https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/managing-your-flock.2/

Good luck

How bad is the bullying? Could just be they are sorting out the new pecking order

They have grabbed one by the neck kind of like a dog and tried to shake it...it's crazy! I've never seen anything like it. That was last week. Our yard is big enough so they can see each other and chill, but the red ones (Red, Goldie, and Angel) run away whenever the older ones (Zipporah and the J triplets) get close because they will chase them off.

I would separate if possible. I have been integrating some babies in with my older hens. They share a run but it is divided with chicken wire. Theyve been sharing it for about 6 weeks now.
