Hi, I am a new member. I have been reading many of the posts and articles available here since we got our first six chickens in March. Since then, we have added 12 more (since my husband can't start small!). We also have 7 turkeys. I am hoping that I won't "chicken" out and end up with 7 pet turkeys after Thanksgiving. I am interested in raising my own food for self sustenance as well as the capability of controlling what is going into the food (wholesome vs. chemical). I am also a K-12 educator, currently transitioning from grade 8 language arts teacher to PreK-6 principal.
Having been a city girl/suburbanite for the first 50 years of my life, I am learning MANY lessons after moving out to the country last summer.
Looking forward to being part of this Backyard Chicken community and learning more about raising healthy and happy birds.
    Gail

[IMG] don't be hard on your husband - chicken addiction strikes fast and hard, he didn't stand a chance.

I'll try to lighten up on hubby! He is very energetic and visionary! I love all the chickens (and hubby) - each breed is so unique! But my profile pic is one of my favorites!
