Help! 3 day old chick with closed swollen eyes.

Hello,

My eggs hatched three days ago and one chick appeared to have swollen, buldging eyes. 3 days later he seems to be struggling to open them and appears to be quite lethargic. I have isolated him in a separate box and have tried wiping the eye area with warm water. Hoping someone see this who has experienced this before. Feel so bad for the little guy.

Please dont pull on the eyelids. I'm not really sure what this could be, but good luck!
I would try agai n to soak the eyes gently in wet warm cloth.

There is a common birth deformity that causes bulging eyes in a chick. Many later become deflated, and most of those chicks are blind. It can affect one or both eyes. It is also possible the chick’s eyes could have been pecked and caused the swelling. You can try to use some Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin ointment in the eyes 2-3 times a day.
