It sounds like you might be talking about the crop, which is a storage pouch in a bird's digestive tract located on the neck just before the juncture with the body cavity. After a bird eats a large meal, the crop often appears as a lump on the left side (facing the bird) side of its neck. It is especially normal for the crop to be large at night after birds have stocked up on feed, but the crop should be empty by morning. If the crop does not empty regularly, then the bird has impacted crop caused by the bird eating a lot of grain or fibery grass.
