hello! so my hen had her babies hatch yesterday early in the day, we took the chicks out to eat/drink and the hen too. There was still 4 eggs not hatched and we took them under a heat lamp and one was starting to pip the shell and peeping sounds. I decided to help out in fear that the egg membrane would dry out like it had happened before. He looks very small and has small eyes, his beak isn't correct and he doesn’t want to get out of the curled position. :( how early does he look? Ive been giving him water with poultry vitamins all day. Is there any hope? I dont wanna give up.

Was his yolk fully absorbed when you assisted hatching? Did you do a full assist? How did you assist him?
When I have chicks that I assisted too early I leave them in the incubator until they’re stronger. Since I’m assuming you don’t have one, try a heating pad instead of the heat lamp. I found with the heat lamp the chicks sometimes don’t get warm enough. Or even too warm. But with a heating pad you can mimic a mother hen. Set the chick on top of the heating pad, with a soft blanket in between, and set a blanket on top of the chick. Making a little den for the chick. Make sure the chick has a way out, can easily get out, and the heating pad is on low. Have the chicks head facing out of the den and check on it frequently if you think it can’t move properly.

Hi so I do think it had fully absorbed the egg but there was a thin layer of sticky blood underneath the membrane. I feel bad as I wasn’t sure to leave him alone or help out of egg. His butthole worried me as it looked red but he poops normally now. He is still weak and wont sit or stand up, he just lays down and sleeps all day. He does peep which is good and sometimes opens his little eye- I only think he has one eye :( but he repositions himself with his legs but doesn’t sit or stand which worries me as its been days and he is getting vitamins everyday and a watery “dough” aka masa becuase he wont peck at chick food. im not sure what else to do

You can try watering down his chick food into a paste and see if he’ll eat that. He needs the chick food since it has all the nutrients he needs to get stronger. A chick chair might help him as well. Is there anything wrong with his legs? Or is he just weak? What vitamins are you giving?

I am giving him nutri-drench drops mixed with water n a regular drops, his legs work ok I think cuz he moves them alot to roll all around. Ok I will definitely try that chair method tomorrow n the chick food asap!

Having him on a vitamin e and vitamin b complex wouldn’t hurt. The nutridrench would have some of that in there already but the extra vitamins aren’t going to hurt him. His legs don’t look like there’s anything wrong with them. Getting him in an upright position should help. I do find that some chicks absolutely hate chick chairs though. So if you find he is getting worse in the chair then take him out.
