We are new to raising chickens and need help. Ten days ago we found one of the 7 week old chicks just laying down and would not get up. She was not eating or drinking. We brough her in, away from the others, force fed and watered her, 2days later, 8 day ago we started her on antibiotics, we force fed her 4 tsp. a day of the antibiotic. .She sounded like she had a stuffed nose so we thought it was probably an upper repiratory infection. She finally started eating on her own 2 days ago. She seems to be improving ,slowly still weak but better than she was. We set her crate out by the other chicken yesterday and she started walking and we noticed she's limping. Don't know if she was when we brought her in because she wasn't walking. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Is it possible that she was attacked in the first place, not sick? Was there ever any mucus discharge from her nostrils? How long did her breathing sound like she was having respiratory trouble? A stressed or hurt chicken will pant with its mouth open. Beyond that, it sounds like, if she's getting around and eating and drinking on her own, that she's getting better.

Thanks so much for your response. She had no mucus discharge and did not breathe with her mouth open. Her nose did sound stuffy. We are thinking now maybe it was a hip injury. She squawks when we felt around her left hip. Thanks again! I hope time will heal.
