Hello! I recently received a few chicks, one being a silkie. S/he is just over six weeks old. I have looked at post after post, picture after picture trying to determine if I have a hen or rooster and I can't for the life of me figure it out. :,) Does anyone have an idea? I'm getting major rooster vibes just based off of behaviors and what looks to be a wattle growing on the beak. Any help would be appreciated! Sorry for the blurry pictures, chicks are hard to get sitting still.

It's too early to tell. But my guess is pullet, based on the shape of the comb. I can't see any wattles, but your pictures aren't really in focus.

Yes, my phone camera doesnt have the best camera quality. :,) But thank you for the input! I got my sister to help me get a few better pictures, but I agree, it's probably still too soon to tell 100%.

this is more of a guess because its still a bit to early to tell but I'm going for a rooster. this one looks exactly like my silkie rooster when he was a baby. We had no idea he was a rooster till he started trying to crow one day lol

Pippin's easy guide to silkie sexing

Hello there! When I hatched my own silkies, I studied and studied about how to sex them. I read that it was almost impossible to sex them, and that you had to wait for a crow or an egg. Raising and watching them helped me pick out certain traits that only belong to roosters or hens. These...

Your silkie looks like a rooster at the moment. But things could change. Update in a couple weeks

Just updating, but you were correct! He started trying to crow yesterday afternoon and now this morning lol. He is most definitely a rooster. 😃👍
