I have 29 hens, all about 7 months old. This morning I found 4 or 5 places with bloody poo. Looking for some advise from some chicken experts... is this Coccidiosis? I have read several ways to treat, I am having trouble identifying - Please help.

Welcome to BYC! Might be a good idea to start treating them with Corid. Also might be a good idea to take a freshnpoop sample to a vet and have it checked for worm eggs, coccidia and bacteria. -Kathy

    Hi there,

Some of my chickens also have blood in their poo.
I know it's coccidiosis and I have already treated them.
At first it stopped but now it came back.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Cheers,
    Eleanna

Are you putting it in their water or giving it orally?

Kathy.... just wanted to give you a quick update on my chickens.

I gave them Corid for 5 days & their droppings are looking normal again... we didn't lose any of the birds. Today I started giving them probiotics & from what I read am planning on doing another shorter Corid treatment in 2 weeks time followed by probiotics again.

Is this typically the treatment you would recommend?

Question, I am wondering if the chickens got sick since we brought in some mulch for the flower beds (which the chickens thought was for them)? If so, should we put them on Corid after getting mulch in the future just in case??

I can't think of anything else "new" to their environment that could have cause the sickness... unless I guess a wild bird or something....

Thank you again for your help! I am so glad the chickens are seemingly back to normal.
