We just got our chicks (16) yesterday. We did everything we were supposed to. 15 are fine and one appears to be on deaths door. She won't drink or eat on her own. She has a pasty butt.. She just lays there, even when the other chicks run over her. I have been trying to hand feed her with a watery paste of chick feed and warm water. She does try to eat/drink it. She is not improving.

Any wisdom for us? We are new to this

Have you cleaned off her bottom to make sure she's not blocked? Sometimes there will be a chick that has a defect and that just does not thrive no matter what you do. You can try some Save-A-Chick if you haven't already.

You can also try treating her with some Corid just in case she's working on an overload of cocci, it sure can't hurt to try. Keep an eye on the others for signs of lethargy as well. If you do decide to try that you will need to not only mix it up in their water but hand feed it to her as well for a couple days with a small needless syringe or eye dropper. Give her some every hour or so and see if she perks up at all.
