This is our first attempt at incubating and hatching eggs. From one dozen we got six, which my kids were thrilled with. However, one baby chick now has a swollen, protruding bottom with puss coming from it. We don't have money to take her anywhere and we don't know what to do with her? Help? It is so sad for my kids to watch all day!

I wish! I have triplet four year olds, one 19 month old and I'm pregnant. I barely have time to write this. It's clear and then white, no blood.

If you could post a cell phone pic even, it would help. I'm wondering if you have a bit of umbilical cord that has remained, and it will dry up and fall off. Is the thing you are talking about below the vent? There should be lots of pictures of that of here, if you look up "retained umbilical cord in chicks."

it might not have absorbed all of it's yolk. It will just be wait and see.

Now baby chick won't open her eyes. Not sure where to go from there? Is it harmful to the other chicks?

It looks like the umbilical cord never healed right...
