So I have a baby that started to hatch last night! This morning I went to check on the little guy and there is this thick sticky goo seeping out of the egg. It's all hard like eggyolk when it dries. And the baby is all sticky and stuck! I tried helping a chick once and the baby didnt make it! But this is different. Idk what to do! The baby isn't chirping but is continuously opening and closing its mouth. Please what do I do! And there are like bubbles coming out of the egg! I think its drowning I dont know what to do

I helped a few chicks out of eggs last year and this is how I did it-

I used a spare bathroom with the shower turned on full blast at the highest temp and the door shut. It was VERY humid in there. So humid it was uncomfortable. I would turn the shower off and on as necessary to maintain the humidity level and preserve the hot water. I did one egg at a time. When I took the egg from the incubator to the bathroom, I carried it in wrapped in a warm and wet paper towel. I VERY carefully removed the shell with the help of a lot of warm water. I didn't force anything and I took my time as I was concerned about tearing something that was attached to the chick. Once the chick was free, I immediately popped it back in the incubator and then worked on the next egg. I think I did this with 3 of them that had been struggling in the way you described for more than 24-30 hours.

Full disclosure: I don't know if this is the best way to do it, the correct way to do it, or a terrible way to do it. I don't know if I could repeat the results.

Do what you're comfortable with and use your best judgement

@aart Do you have any thoughts here? I know you've helped me before with hatching questions.

So I have just been swabbing inside the egg and absorbing extra moisture I think that the humidity sensor may be messed up in my incubator. The last couple days I noticed like drops of water forming on the top but the thing continued to read 65 to 70. This is only my second hatch but I didnt see it do that on the last hatch! So maybe it's my incubator! I only have one hatching and there are 9 eggs all were good up until I closed it down for the last 3 days! I wonder if the others are drowning as well? Do you think it's safe to take them out and have a look at them?

My first hatch I helped one of my babies I didnt tear the membrane or anything had the little guy all the way out and it died! I am very reluctant to help again unless its absolutely necessary. The thing is for the most part they know what there doing! It always seems to be human or mechanical error that makes it hard for them! Good luck with your babies and thank you for responding to my post I'm still worried but feel like the little guy is doing a little better! At least hes chirping. Before was making no noise just opening and closing mouth!
