I've been out of town since yesterday morning, and during my absence my hens knocked over their water and drained it. I filled the waterer, fed them, and just found my OEGB hen waddling around with an egg showing from her vent. She's straining hard, poor thing, so we're gently rubbing coconut oil around her vent to lubricate the area.

Is there anything else I can do? She refuses to go into a nest box..

    Help!

Would snipping the edge of her vent help? It would enlarge the opening enough so the egg can come through, but has anyone tried this?

Ok, so I'm going to give her a nice warm soaking in the sink, then put her in a dark carrier and see if she'll lay the egg.

    Sounds good?

She's straining really hard, but I think the bath is working.

    Very, very little progress.

Please can someone give advice? She's in a lot of pain. [IMG]

The poor thing. I don't know what to do. Should you break the egg? Heck if I know and I am sorry no one is here to advise.

I heard about oiling the vent and feeling her body forth egg ad slowly helping to massage it out. Hope she doesn't repeat!
