I am a complete novice and seeking some help from you guys to help identify the gender of three chooks. They are 2 leghorns and 1 Isa brown. I have a suspicion that the isa brown is a ROO. they are 8-9 weeks old.

Those aren't leghorns, and that's not an Isa Brown, I'm sorry to say. Leghorns are pure white, and have bright yellow legs. Your 'Isa Brown' is a rooster, which would be impossible with that coloration if it was a real SL hybrid.

Not sure the breed but the brown one looks very much like a roo.

Don't know if you want a roo or not, so grats or sorry. [IMG] [IMG]

Quote:If I were to guess, I would say they're a egg-laying leghorn hybrid of some sort. The one with color coming through on it's feathers is most likely male, but the first whiter bird is female. You could probably just call the red one Production Red, or Barnyard Red.

Can't have any in my area either. Wouldn't mind having one otherwise.

You might not have to go down that route. Post an add on Craigslist offering free roosters. You would be surprised how many may reply. Even if they are going to slaughter them, a least you didn't have to.
