My favorite chicken, a shy little poof ball of a bantam, has gone broody. She is hanging in the nest box almost non-stop. When I take her out of the nest boxes to collect eggs she does go eat, scratch around ect. But I'm wondering if I should let her hatch one or two? I do have roosters so it's a possibility but I just can't decide if I want to have babies...what do you think...let her try to hatch some??

Thanks everyone for your vote [IMG]

ETA: Will she sit the whole time since she has been broody for a few days now?

Hehe that is kinda what I was thinking. I've never had one go broody/hatch eggs before so it should be a learning experience! [IMG]

I have my second broody momma with 4 baby chicks right now...my kids love it. The first set, only 2 survived, but they are outside and still cute as can be. If another one goes broody, we will let her have at it again. Loving those chicks!![IMG]

(Just remember, mommas are protective of their chicks, make sure your toddlers are supervised around them. )

YES!! Let her have babies. She would be happy with 5 or 6 yes.

Give her at least 6, that way if they don't all develop, you still will have a couple chicks. With just a few eggs, I'd be afraid of having the hen brood and have nothing hatch.
