Right now I'm using 1 gallon plastic waterers. I'm wanting to get a 3 gal or 5 gal one. I will need about 3. All my birds are large fowl and will be no more than 10 in a pen full grown but more as babies. I have 3 choices and just don't know. I found a 3.5 gallon at ts for 17 something.you unscrew it from the bottom just like my 1 gallon. Then they have a 3 gallon that you can fill from the top for 27 and a 5 gallon for 33. Not 100% on prices. My parents take care of my birds when I go out of town every other weekend ad they like the little giants better so they could just fill from top. But I like the cheaper ones. Lol. So I guess I'm going to spend more but would you get a 3 gallon or 5?

The larger one will not get as hot in the summer. Plus it should be kept in shade.

If your parents are good enough to look after your birds every other weekend it would be a nice gesture to get the waterers that they would find easiest to use. Personally I prefer the top-fill ones too, cause the ones you have to fill up then turn over, I always end up splashing myself. I'd also agree with going for the biggest waterers you can get.

If you want to save on money I would go for the kind that fits on a 5 gallon bucket. Like this:

I haven't used this one in awhile (hence it being dry and dirty) but it does work really well. I use a kiddie swimming pool now for water. I mostly use it in the summer because it is easy move into the shade. The base will fit either a 3 or a 5 gallon bucket.
