First time posting. My mallard duck seems huge. I'm starting to think he/she is a Rouen? The guy at the feed store told me he thought snowy mallard but I'm not so sure about that... Here are a couple pictures, the chicks and duck are the same age, about 6 weeks. Also if anyone has any clue on the sex :) thank you!

Edited - OK I initially asked if this duck was Mallard or Rouen. After looking at pictures it does seem like its neither. I would love to know what type of duck I have, can anyone help me?

I'm not an expert, but that doesn't look like either a Mallard or Rouen to me. For one thing the head color looks all wrong. Also the feet should be a yellowish color, not black. My first thought when I saw the photo was Muscovy cross.

As a side note, ducklings grow much faster than chicks, at least in my experience.

Thanks for your reply! I knew he would grow faster, I have just been comparing him to other 6 week duckling pics, and he seems big compared to those to me :)

Anyway that's very interesting!! Here is a picture of when he is only a few days old. Maybe it will help? I would love to know what type of duck he is! (Also if he is actually a HE! Haha)

Interesting, in that photo I could definitely see why they would think he was a Mallard. Hopefully somebody better versed in duck genetics will come along and answer the question :)

I thought that too, but are they ever yellow? I know in the pic he looks yellow, but he is very much yellow and black colored. No white on him at all. His legs and beak are mostly black, spotted with a lighter orangey color.

Maybe he is stained? I honestly can't think of an adult duck that keeps yellow feathering. I do know that my ancona drake that refuses to bathe looks yellow at times because he is a dirty boy.

No, he is definitely yellow and not white. Is 6 weeks considered adult? I thought it was weird too that he is basically a big version of himself as a baby duckling... Lol! I keep waiting on him to change but nothing!

Oh ok, he is still a baby. Sometimes the baby feathers are yellow :) They will most likely turn white when he/she molts.
