I got the little red rooster from the Feed Store when he was just a little chick. A few weeks into raising him I noticed that he did not have much of a comb and that he was sprouting feather on the top of his head. We thought he might be some type of silkie mix and figured he was a pullet. Lo and behold, he's a rooster. LOL Rocker (formerly known as SUNFLOWER) is a funny looking dude! He has black legs, a v-shaped comb and feather atop his head. He is smaller than my other roosters and a tad smaller than our RIR's. A few months back I found him hiding under a bush with part of his head gnawed/chewed/hurt. I don't know how it happened but we managed to nurse him back to health. His feathers are coming back in but he still has plenty to make him look like a rock star. He lost some plumage a while back too because a dog got into their coop and managed to manhandle him a bit. We're soooo happy he's managed to survive this whole time, especially after being at the hands of my third child. That kid loved on him like no other kid has loved on a chick before. LOL
Here are the pics... what is he?
This second roo we got from the swap meet/ flea market. My husband has always wanted a white rooster, and when we saw this one we bought him. He spent some time in isolation/quarantined. He had some chiggers/fleas (whatever it is birds get) and at the suggestion of some of our elders, we put some vegetable shortening all over his comb and wattles. It took care of the problem, the bugs were gone... but the shortening got on his beautiful white feathers and made them look dingy. I'm thinking of bringing him inside in a little bit and giving him a good scrub down. He's our main roo and thanks to him we have fertile eggs to put in the incubator. Any idea of what he is?
THANKS FOR THE HELP/SUGGESTIONS
