I found this plant behind my house and am not sure what kind it is, if it is edible, or practically anything about it. Can someone give me some information? I thought it was a green zebra tomato at first but it has a lot of seeds inside like a pepper plant. When I took one off and brought it inside to cut it open a few minutes ago, the inside was pale and the seeds light brown. Now the inside is all black and slimy so it must rot very quickly. Any ideas? I want to feed them to the chickens if possible.

Also, yellow fruit nightshade fruits usually have a green cap on them don't they? As the fruit went slimy and gooey so quickly it may easily be in the eggplant family but I am unsure.. Does the plant have any thorns? It kind of looks like it might have white ones in the first pic but it is hard to tell. Don't feed it to your chickens until you are sure about what it is. I had a nightshade plant of some kind growing in my garden and the silly jack rabbit went and ate some berries and I found him dead under the plant!

Sorry for the late reply! There are no thorns and the fruit or whatever it may be has a strange almost water-melon patterning during the earlier stages of its development. The majority of the fruit are yellow and have a very dull pattern or none at all.
