So long story short the island that i live on in hawaii has 100's if not thousands of wild chickens. its a good story but for another time, and obviously i have chickens, or i wouldnt be here all the time [IMG] so any how i caught this wild rooster in my chicken trap that i got from the dump [IMG] and was testing it out when i caught this guy - so i kept him for a few days while i decided if i wanted him. he is really pretty but his comb is sort of funny and he has a really short body i noticed and decided to let him out... needless to say, he now wont leave! [IMG] which would be fine, because we have another young rooster that hangs in the yard, but he runs away from me. the rooster i caught has charged me from across the yard [IMG] and jumped up in the kids room window sill to try to get me through the screen! after he charged me i went put my boots on (i was in slippa's -aka flip flops, at the time when he charged - so i ran - he's scary -lol [IMG]) and chased him out of the yard with the hose on until he ran out our dead end street, across the main road into the woods on the other side. and im not normally scared of he wild roosters - their everywhere! but he freaks me out. then he came back the next day (which was 2 days ago now) and my DH chased him out across the street. so yesterday i went to work, then this morning i went out, fed the birds, went back in the house and a bit later i heard the crow! looked out by the coop and he's up on the side of it!![IMG] [IMG] now i dont even want to go outside - and its actually overcasts today so its a lot cooler out. [IMG] so what do i do now?? i need him out of the yard and DH is working a double today and wont be home for hours and its only 2 in the afternoon here - with 6 hours a daylight to go! should i just go and chase him out again? and when is he finally going to get that he's not wanted!! i wanted to let my banty cochins out to freerange today in the afternoon - now what?! and the thing im most worried about is my 4yr old daughter who wants to play and run outside? what if he attack her? ill be so upset!

i love that we have wild chickens here, but this one is very aggressive and i have small children. [IMG] im freaking out. any words of wisdom would be so helpful. the thing is i have roosters of my own already and have had in the past and even when they tried to flog me i had no trouble doing some [IMG] butt kicking. but this one freaks me out. should i try to get him in the trap again and then drive him somewhere away from the house and let him go out there so he wont be able to come right back and what if i cant catch him again and chasing him out of the yard to the woods across the street only works for 24 hours and he keeps coming back??!! [IMG]

"mahalo nui loa" BYC peeps for all your help!
"thank you very much" - Hawaiian

Can you shoot it? Most any small pellet gun should kill a chicken. Otherwise maybe you could stand guard duty with the hose?

You're bigger than he is, he can't really hurt you. Put on your big girl pants and go out there and show him who's boss! You're not gonna let some puny little chicken brain bird keep you from enjoying a nice day are you?!

(Ok, that's me trying to encourage you, did it work???) [IMG]

any neighbors have a fishing net, the round kind with the handle? you could catch him with that when he comes after you. Then ask around, someone will be happy to make dinner out of him - although most of them that I saw over there were scrawny scrappy little guys - I guess they have to be to take on the ferral cats! Shoot him or trap him and dispatch him.

Quote:Have YOU ever been gotten by a rooster??? My cousin is almost blind in one eye from a rooster attacking him as a kid. I had a boy get my arm pretty good once too. needless to say those roosters are both dead.

What if the kids are out playing in the yard one day and the rooster comes around? DANGER!!

I say 'take care of him' if it legal. Trap him again and get him after dark?

thanks guys [IMG] i did go out after i posted to chase him off - but he was gone already! [IMG] maybe he knows whats coming to him if he stays around. so hopefully he just wont come back - and i may just get a pellet gun for the future [IMG] i plan on eventually raising more dual purpose birds for meat but wondered if i would be able to kill them - this roo (if he comes back) might be a good place to start! [IMG] mahalo again [IMG]

    I think yer yellow! [IMG]

Hey, I was just having some fun with her trying to pump her up to go out and take care of him. Now if I said "You're bigger than he is, but he could still take yer eye out!" that really wouldn't be much of a pep talk now would it?

To answer your question though, I have had my fair share of roosters attack me, but none of them ever won that fight. I am definitely meaner than any ole cock bird! Sounds like you are too! And BigIslandChicks can be too if she believes and has the right attitude! That's the point right there.
