HELP! Mommy trying to kill one of baby chicks?

I've got a bunch of babies at different ages with different broody hens and of the casualties I've had, most have been when there is an age difference between them and their hatch-mates. Some of my little late-hatchers had to get moved in with other mamas who had babies closer in age, otherwise the broody would peck and pick on them. I think it might be the hen's instinct to cull the weakest, but she doesn't take the age difference into account. Best of luck with your little guy!

(one of my late-hatchers that got tore up by his mama came to live with me for a week, then I put him in with a mama who had just hatched some babies. He's been with her for over a week now, he showed the little ones how to eat and drink and watches out for them, but if given his choice on how to spend a day, he sleeps under his adopted mom's wing with his head sticking out)
