I noticed yesterday she was doing this half kinda yawn thing as if something was stuck in her throat..today she did it too Could this be gapeworm? Should I go ahead and worm all my peas? What would be the easiest for me, a novice chicken and peafowl owner to do? Please suggest what I should purchase and keep it the easiest another words..something I can put on bread and or in water I do have some waxen I just got in today, but don't know if I should give that? Pour on or inject, not happening.... Cause iam not ready to try and catch..eheheh I have been reading about ivomectin pour on, but iam not catching them! Lol And because they go to bed every night on their tree and I can't reach them also What's the easiest and will work method for me to try to worm? Fyi I have four peas The white peahen is of breeding age and my spaulding is breeding age and then I have the other couple around 11 months old Thank u all for your advice
It depends on what it looks like but she could just be yawning. Sometimes just like dogs and cats peafowl yawn too, although I don't see mine do it much they do.
I worm a few times a year with Ivomec Plus injection. I've had one with gapeworm before and did inject for fast results, but normally just put it in the water for a few days and again in 10 days. I've heard of many wormers you can use on peafowl and some may suggest switching it up throughout the year. I'm by no means an expert on this. I use Craig Hopkins' list for meds: http://hopkinslivestock.com/Peafowl Medications.htm Hope this helps.
Quote:I noticed while out there yesterday..3 times in 1 hour And it's like she opens her mouth and then does this shake head thing at the same time..now the shake head isn't always at the same time But I see this as different because I do not see one other peafowl of mine doing this This is why iam asking, because iam not sure what to do I don't know if this makes a difference but we have had our share of rain, rain, rain for the past couple of weeks and many times they like to just sit in the tree with the rain pouring down on them Let me know please what I should do Thank u
Is her eyes swollen?? If she has gape worms you need to Ivomec them it is best to catch to give it you can put it in there water but it will take longer to cure.
My Peahen did this to... She got Coryza....Hoping yours dont have that!! She would open her mouth then shake her head and her eyes were swollen/puffy and her beak has runny stuff comming out of it and she smelt bad! Lets hope you dont have it!!!!!!
Sinusitis is the main thing peafowl catch, Coryza and Sinusitis have the same signs. Tylan 200 / 1 cc injection for 3 to 4 days. Baytril / injection or in there water (I like the injection it works faster)
