I admit, I don't have an amazing relationship with my quails, as they are really shy and jumpy, but I love them all the same. I noticed this morning that my male has a missing toe. It took a while for me to be sure as he was running about as usual, but when he stood still it was kind of obvious. There is no blood around the stump, just ordinary scaly skin. It looks completely healed, how long could it have been like this and why haven't I noticed it?

On this same leg, he has some sort of lump or growth, it looks a bit sore and I feel really awful for not noticing earlier. He doesn't seem to act any different though. If anyone can help I will be really grateful, thanks.

It could have hatched that way.
I'd pay attention to the sore lump but otherwise he'll probably be ok.

Thanks, he seems ok still and is probably wondering why I worry so much! :p I'll keep an eye on him, thanks for the vote of confidence
