Our chicks were born in June and have been fine since then. Today I found that one of my chicks was pecked at on the head badly. I assume it was one of my other chicks because they had a little blood in their beaks. I don’t know how to heal the wound, and the chick has been very sleepy. I’m afraid that she won’t make it. Anything I can do to heal the wound? I have her separated from the others and her mom. Her skin is raw in her head and there is no scabbing yet. Help!!!

Normally, head wounds on chicks heal very well. If one of the other chicks did this damage, it probably wasn't a hard enough peck to do brain damage.

Clean the wound with soap and warm water, and put an anitbiotic ointment on it. Do this twice a day and don't allow the wound to dry out.

If the chick is sleepy and seems weak, it may be suffering from shock. Give it sugar water and electrolytes. If the chick has balance issues and they get worse after being treated for shock, then you might suspect brain damage.

Keep her warm. And put neasoporn on the wounds.
