i received chicks through mail for the first time and I've had them for abt three days but one of my silkie chicks had been lethargic since we got her, at first she seemed normal, she slept a lot but I saw her eat and drink just fine then sleep again. By second day she was wobbling on one foot unable to walk around well super off balance because she couldn't put weight on one foot and I evaluated her and I could not see a break or any cause of injury besides maybe being trampled but that was my best guess. I set her apart in a small box so she could sleep and not be trampled but now by day three she is practically limp, and can't hold her weight. I've been hand feeding her and giving her water with electrolytes and we tried sugar as well. I can see her fighting but I have absolutely no idea how to help! I feel helpless and I don't know what I've done wrong! This is my first time with chivks so young and I feel like I've failed! I sit by her box in horror terrified of when she will stop breathing. She goes through periods where she tries and gets up for maybe 20-30 minutes and she's been taking food and water well when I feed it to her but she's so limp and she falls asleep mid swallow and I've been trying so bad but she JJST keeps getting worse! I'm new to this and have been researching so hard but I fear she wont make the night and I was hoping someone could help! She also twitches when she's falling asleep. It started on the third day and she extends her wings and reaches her neck out every few seconds. She sleeps on her stomach face down, wings outstretched and she opens her mouth when she breathes in her sleep. No discharge or anything I've been through the most common causes of death and ms JJST can't find one that matches everything and I'm going insane :( she's fighting so hard this JJST breaks my heart

Unfortunately with chicks, especially shipped or purchased one some won't make it. Sounds like you have done everything that may help. It will either make it or it won't. Sorry, I have lost chicks too.

is the poop normal looking ? check for blood. Sounds like shipping stress or failur to thrive chick. Scramble her some eggs, keep her just a hair warmer . If you can get some nutra drench . If you do happen to see blood in the poop you can treat for cocci w/ corrid .

It's a good sign that she is fighting, but I would prepare yourself because it is likely she won't make it. This sounds like more than just a leg injury, and if the problem in neurological, she probably won't get better.:hit

You are doing everything to give the chick a good fighting chance.

Don't beat yourself up if it does not pull through. Some are just to worn out from hatching and getting shipped to thrive. Some also have genetic abnormalities that are not survivable.

:hugs Most of us have fought the fight you are fighting.

Her poop looked normal for until the end, she passed a few minutes ago, I guess it was just nature taking its course, thank you so much though!

She passed away a few minutes ago, you're probably right and for the most part it was a peaceful death, I hope she didn't suffer too much thank you though ❤️

I had a similar problem this spring, some simply don't make it. At least you know you did all you could to give it a chance. :hugs

Thank you so much you don't know how comforting this is, especially to have so many people that try to help and even if they can't still understand Sadly she did pass tonight but it seemed peaceful and she put up a good fight but I hope she's out there somewhere not suffering anymore!
