My rooster is still alive , but not looking good. He's been attacked in the neck. He has no feathers on his neck and lots of blood and muscle showing he looked worse this morning and I thought he was about to die and I brought him in the house and wrapped him up and put him under a heat lamp and thought by now he's gone , I went and checked on him and HE's standing up and trying to walk. BUT he looks really really bad.
    nothing but flesh showing

    what should I do???

I've tried to clean him up but I'm afraid to hurt him
    he wont drink
but he seems to be getting stronger.

Please someone suggest something I can do , He's become my great friend and I'm torn to bits right now.

I'd like to save him or put him out his misery

Keeping him warm and quiet is the first thing to do.

If you can, clean off the wound with soap and water or Hydrogen Peroxide to get rid of the germs.

If you can cover it with neosporin or any other antibacterial ointment that will help too.

As long as he's still moving around he should be alright...

    They're tough little critters...

OG thanks so much for the words of hope.

I just washed him off with water and a bit of soap seems to have taken away his energy he's laying quiet again. Kinda gasping for air.

I have him under a heat lamp wraped in clean towels he should be warm enough.

I just dont know about the hanging flesh and meat. He has some hanging of the top of his head and from his neck.

its almost as if he's been skinned from the top of the head to his back.
no feathers or skin just meat torn up.

    I hope he makes it.
    fingers crossed.

He was such a good friend.
He hung out with me in my garden and loved to be by my side.

For some reason he didnt go in the coop and stayed on the ground last night .
some how the dog got out and ripped him up sometime last night.
I knew it when I saw all the feathers out back.

He may lose the tissue on his neck and head, but he can still heal up and be a rooster.

He won't win any prizes, but at least he'll be alive.

Pictures could help too. If you can.

he is in shock... he needs to drink and have electrolytes (ORS)... dehydration is a very serious risk. Do you have pedialyte in the house? or even gatorade if nothing else... dilute that and give it to him by dropper in the beak (do not squirt in the beak as he must swallow it himself or you risk it going down the wrong opening into the lungs).
Between drinking times you can put a hot water bottle under the shavings (perhaps put the shavings in a carboard box as this will prevent drafts and is very insulating and will keep the warmth in).
If you can get a sterile "squirt" type bottle , then use that to flush the wound out with sterile saline...you can make this by boiling 1/4 tsp salt in a quart of water and letting cool. Squirt that solution into the wound liberally to clean (place the bird on a towel and it will soak up the excess water that runs off the wound. Then apply liberally some betadine which has been diluted to look like a weak tea if you do not have the triple antibiotic creme. Keep him in a dark quiet room but he must be warm and kept protected from any drafts.

you need to upload the pic to a host on the internet at a place like phtobucket for instance Ithis is free and easy to do)... then once uploaded to your photobucket account you will need to choose the last URL underneath that photo and copy and paste that here in your post.
