I have a barred rock brooder hen sitting now for two weeks. I placed her in a encloser with a nesting box, water, and food. She started with nine eggs and now only 4 are under her. I opened the area to let her get completely out when she wants. I don't think she figured out she had her own water and feed. Is this what anyone else would do?

That sounds about right to me, that's what I normally do with my broodies with no problems. just remember to remove any large dishes of water before the eggs hatch. What happened the other eggs?

Yeah, I think she was eating them. I'm going to check again today to see how many is left. But hopfully she will just sit on the last four. [IMG]
