My first baby silkie has just hatched and he/she is shouting the house down and playing football with the other 7 eggs, 3 of which have pipped - should I do anything?

The hatch was absolutely amazing and wonderful to watch - fingers crossed for other 7!

I just thought that they were supposed to be exhausted for a few hours after hatching but my little chicky is so full of beans and singing at the top of its voice I'm not sure if it is distressed and I'm worried that he/she may damage the other pipping eggs - any advice anyone??

Good luck with your silkies - I am sending lots of good vibes your way!

The chick won't hurt the eggs. You will do more damage by opening the incubator and dropping the humidity.

I would agree with the rooster hypothesis....my first hatchers have been roosters too.

Aw thanx for that - you're right I have been so nervous the whole way through - and I am still on edge waiting for the others - but it's been fantastic having people to share concerns and joys with - will keep everyone up to date - still only got the one hatched and 3 pipped at the moment, it really is the absolute best way to spend a weekend lol
