Black Breasted Red Cubalaya
Is it obvious or is than educated guess? I got them from a local feed store and they ordered from Crachery (sp?). They were in a bantam batch I think...
I wonder if she is mixed with the same breed as my rooster?
this bird isn't mixed. She's a cute little red Cochin.
Not a guess. Breed determination is basically about comparing a given bird to breed standards. If a bird hits all the main points, and is lacking major disqualifiers, it qualifies as the particular bree. In the rooster's case, he has all of the correct features for Black Breasted Cubalaya. Not a perfect, show quality bird, but not terrible.
The red pullet has a single comb, yellow skin, and feathered legs. Those traits indicate Cochin. Again, not a show quality example.
Both are pretty common breeds for most hatcheries.
cute little red cochin girl
