My 4 month old female mallard duck passed on the 9th and I'm not sure how she died.. [IMG] not sure if it was because I accidentally sprayed her with perfume? The night before she was running around and happy but the next morning she wouldn't stand up. But she crawled... and I tried giving her water and she drank some but still would not stand. And a couple of hours she slowly left.. Anyone have any idea on how she could have passed?

That's a hard one! Maybe she ate something poisonous, or she could have died of shock of something in the night.[IMG]

She couldn't have ate anything poisonous. She's been inside the house ever since she hatched...

How much perfume did you get on her? Did she maybe breathe it in? Birds are very sensitive to fumes, so that could possibly have had something to do with it, unfortunately. :/

I didnt spray much. But i sprayed it like 2 days before she died. I sprayed it a lot in the passed and never really affected her. Also i have 2 other ducks i kept in the house that same night. Didn't affect them either. Just trying to figure out how she died so it doesn't happen again...

Ok, it might have been something else then. If she'd been a bit older I would have suspected egg binding, but not at 4 months old. Too young, as I'm sure she hadn't started laying yet.

Unfortunately, ducks (and most animals) are extremely good at hiding sicknesses and you won't know anything is wrong until it's too late (like what happened with your girl). The only way to know for sure what happened would be to have a necropsy done on her, which isn't usually an easy option for duck owners. There really is no way to know exactly what happened to her otherwise. She was young and maybe had some kind of congenital illness going on inside that you didn't know about. Again, so sorry for your loss. :/

I remember i didnt feed her for 2 days. But i feed her that night but she was fine. But then comes morning she wasn't standing. Thought she was still tired. I dont want to think that her death was my fault. [IMG]
